Seattle 2011: Building Opportunities, Leading for Equity

W.K. Kellogg Foundation
Learning Labs
2011 Annual Conference

May 23-25, 2011
Hyatt at Olive 8
Seattle, Washington

This conference allowed participants an opportunity to harness the power of collaborative learning and collective problem solving, resulting in community development and systems change in the service of improved child well-being.

The conference helped Learning Labs site teams advance their commitment to lead for racial equity in early childhood and education settings across the country; created a forum where Learning Labs partners can share successful strategies, lessons learned, and major challenges of being strong and committed leaders for racial equity; and developed individual and site team commitments for taking intentional steps to eradicate racial disparities in educational systems.

This convening helped Learning Labs site teams consider how they can address systemic barriers to quality learning environments to help our educational systems operate differently, as well as some of the benefits and outcomes they are seeing from such efforts.

Participants also contemplated innovative approaches that Learning Labs sites are pioneering on the front lines of schools, early learning centers, and communities to create equitable opportunities.
